Have you ever seen a house, maybe even yours, where the flashing (the bright shiny metal) along the chimney or brick wall just looks horrible, like it’s been done and redone ten times? Have you ever had a leak in your house around the chimney? Probably it was patched and lasted for a short time and then leaked again. Unfortunately this happens to a lot of homeowners because most roofers never install the flashing right to begin with. Basically there are two ways to flash a chimney to keep it from leaking; one will last a few months or a couple of years and the other will last as long as the roof does. Make sure you find out exactly how they intend to keep water from coming in around chimneys, walls, skylights and dormers, or you’ll be patching it in the near future.
